Description

The pumping station at Lock 38 on the Grand Union Canal was built around 1838 to 1841. It is constructed of brown brick in English bond, featuring offset eaves and a hipped slate roof. The right end wall is rendered. The openings of the building have semi-circular arched heads. The front facing the canal includes a large central window with cast iron glazing bars that have decorative roundels at the intersections. There are flanking double doors with radiating fanlights, and a similar window is located at each end of the building.
