Description
Gamnel Bridge, also known as Bridge Number 2, is a canal crossover and road bridge located at Tringford Road, built around 1797 by William Jessop, who was the chief engineer for the Grand Junction Canal Company. The bridge is constructed of brown brick, featuring a red brick arch and a blue brick band at the base of the parapet, along with special blue brick copings. It is a narrow, hump-backed bridge with a tall, three-centred arched span and battered sides. There are rectangular metal tie-plates positioned over the arch. Notably, there is no towpath at this location, as the towpath crosses from the south to the north side of the canal at this bridge.
