Description
Lock 39 on the Grand Union Canal is a canal lock built around 1800, with some later repairs. The brick retaining walls were dated 1914 and feature stone coping. The lock has two pairs of gates equipped with sluices and winding gear, one of which has a quoin dated 1870. At the northern end, there are brick steps, and a single cast iron bollard is present. Additionally, there are two side ponds that are in working order, with winding gear dated 1865.
