Description

Canal House is a mid-19th century house, likely originally incorporating a canal office. It is situated on the Grand Union Canal, Aylesbury Arm, fronting onto the canal. The building is constructed of pebbledash and render, with hipped slate roofs and pebbledashed chimneys featuring rendered cornices. The front elevation, facing the canal, has one storey and a basement, arranged over four bays. Bays 1 and 3 have paired casement windows with cast iron lattic glazing bars; the right-hand bay has a 20th-century barred wooden casement. The second bay features a canted projection with a two-light window to the front, and single-light windows with marginal glazing on the sides. The basement has irregular early 20th-century windows and a lean-to addition. A rear entrance provides access, and the rear also features a two-storey semi-circular projection with similar early 20th-century windows. The building is included on the list for group value.
