Description

"White House" and "Next to White House" are a pair of cottages located in Ashendon, originally built in the 17th century and altered in the 18th century. The "White House" features timber framing with plastered infill on the left side and rubblestone, all of which is colourwashed. The "Next to White House" is primarily colourwashed rubblestone, with the left bay being part brick, also colourwashed. Both cottages have plain tile roofs and are two storeys high, each consisting of three bays.

The "White House" has a modern timber porch with a door in the center and another door in the right bay. It has three 2-light casement windows with doors between them on the ground floor, while the first floor features three 3-light casements on the left bays and 2-light casements on the right. The right gable is half-hipped, and there are two old brick stacks: one on the left and another between the right bays. The rear and flank elevations are also colourwashed rubble. To the right, there is a two-bay outbuilding with a half-hip roof and a door on the left side.

The interior of the "White House" includes chamfered and stopped spine beams. The "Next to White House" has two doors on the ground floor between three 2-light casements and gabled 2-light windows in the right bays on the first floor. Its left gable is half-hipped, with a stack located between the left bays and on the party wall.
