Description

Ashendon Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, which was refronted around 1862. It has a timber frame with red brick infill at the rear and was refronted in brick during the 1862 renovation. The building features old tile roofs.

The right-hand range is 1½ storeys high and consists of 2 bays, originating from the early 17th century, with a timber-framed rear wing. The left-hand block, built in the mid-17th century, is 2 bays and 2 storeys tall, including an attic that was constructed as a chamber wing. Adjacent to the left is a rubblestone stable.

The south front has a door located in a modern porch to the right of the 2-storey block. This block features four-pane wide sash windows, with the left-hand lower window designed as a flat-roofed canted bay window that includes 2-pane side lights. There are also two 2-light dormers. The right-hand 1½ storey block has a French door on the left and a 3-light casement window on the right, along with two 3-light gabled eaves dormers. A stack is located between the two blocks and at the rear wing.

At the rear, there is an addition from 1862 on the left, which includes a panelled canted bay window. Inside, the right-hand 1½ storey bays feature chamfered joists on the ground floor and chamfered and stopped spine beams. The wall plate is straight, with tie beam braces. The left-hand 2-storey bays also have chamfered and stopped spine beams, with elaborately moulded stops.
