Description

Pollicott Manor is a late 16th or early 17th century farmhouse which has undergone alterations. It was originally timber-framed but has been extensively refaced or rebuilt using rubble stone and brick, with old tile roofs. The house has four bays and two storeys with attics. The north or entrance front has colourwashed rubble, with a plastered timber-frame section in the second bay from the right. It features a six-panel door with a flat hood supported by cut scroll brackets. A band course runs between the floors on the rubble bays. Windows are mostly casements, some with leaded lights, and include a four-light window on the ground floor of the second bay, with a lean-to to the right. The south elevation has an off-centre staircase turret, a double-gabled projection to its right, and a lean-to, all constructed in brick. A large stone stack with a brick shaft is located to the left, while to the right are large brick stacks, each with three diagonal flues and corbelled caps. Sash windows are present in some bays, alongside casements. The west gable has a rubble stone ground floor and a rendered first floor, both with sash windows; a tripartite window is on the ground floor, and a brick gable contains a two-light leaded casement. The east gable has timber framing with brick infill, with most timbers plastered over. Inside, ground and first floor rooms have chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. Three rooms retain original oak panelling. The central newel and upper treads of the staircase in the staircase wing are also original oak.
