Description
Valley Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with alterations made in 1753 and the 19th century. It is constructed from brick and rubblestone, featuring brick dressings. Some parts of the northeast or rear elevation are colourwashed, and it has old tile roofs. The building consists of four bays with rear wings on the outer bays and infill at the southeast angle. It stands two storeys high, plus dormers.
The southwest front has a six-panel door located in a lattice porch, which is the second bay from the right. There are three early 19th-century tripartite sash windows on the ground floor and four first-floor sashes, all of which are four-pane except for the one above the doorway. A band course runs between the storeys, and there is a plinth and a moulded timber cornice. Traces of early 18th-century window arches can be seen. The southeast gable elevation is made of rubblestone with brick dressings and features a datestone at the apex reading 'E.T. 1753'.
The rear elevation includes a northwest wing that is two storeys high and one bay wide, built of brick with segmental arches over mullioned and transomed three-light leaded windows. The gable elevation is made of rubble, with a brick gable and gable stack. There is a four-panel door with a hood, and a bay of two-light leaded casements. A painted brick gabled two-storey projection is found in the third bay from the northwest. The southeast wing is one storey, constructed of colourwashed rubble and brick, featuring leaded casements flanking stacks and two three-light dormers, one with a flat roof and the other gabled.
Inside, the rooms on either side of the hall have early 18th-century box cornices, with the left-hand room being panelled. There is an early 18th-century closed string staircase with turned balusters and square newels.
