Description

The Bakehouse is a 17th-century house, with alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of rubblestone with brick dressings, and has old tile roofing. The building originally comprised three bays and has a 1½-story layout. The south elevation features two blocked doorways on the right-hand side, a window of two lights in the left bay which was the original doorway, and a 17th-century door positioned in front of a stack, forming a lobby entry. The other windows on this elevation date from the 18th-century subdivision of the building into three cottages. The windows are 3-light casements with segmental arches. A central, 3-light gabled eaves dormer is present, as are dentil eaves. A stack is situated between the right-hand bays and to the left gable. The right gable is half-hipped, and the left gable is rendered on timber framing with brickwork below the gable. Two rear dormers, each with three lights, are visible. A flat-roofed rear addition exists. Inside, the left room has a chamfered spine beam; the central room has a chamfered spine beam with run-out stops; and the right room has a moulded spine beam with elaborate stops.
