Description
The pair of attached houses at Sweet Briar Cottages likely originated in the late 17th century and have undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The left-hand cottage (No. 1) has rendered rubble walls, while the right-hand cottage (No. 2) has colourwashed rubble walls, both topped with a pantiled roof featuring ridge and gable stacks.
The cottages are arranged as 1 1/2 storeys with a 3-window front. On the ground floor, from left to right, is a 4-light casement retaining some ovolo-moulded mullions, now with 20th-century lattice glazing; a door with strap hinges, an inset glazed panel, and a triangular hood; a half-glazed door; and a further 3-light casement with segmental heads. Above are three gabled dormers, each with a casement window of two upper and two lower lights. The right return features a single-storey addition with waney-edged boarding, a 3-light casement to the front, and two 20th-century 4-pane lights to the side. The left return shows a 2-light casement at both ground and first floor levels, along with a single-storey wing to the rear. The interior is not accessible.
