Description
This is a 19th-century milepost made of painted cast iron, located south of the junction with Chessfield Park on the Amersham Road (A404) in Little Chalfont. The milepost has a triangular base that is chamfered to a gable shape. The top of the milepost is inscribed with 'Hatfield 21' in raised Clarendon lettering and numerals. The base features similar inscriptions: on the left side, it reads 'Amersham 3, Reading 29' with a projecting tag for the first 'A', and on the right side, it states 'Rickmansworth 5'. This milepost is positioned along the old Hatfield to Reading Turnpike Road.
