Description
The K8 telephone kiosk at Chalfont and Latimer Station is a Grade II listed structure, designed by Bruce Martin for the General Post Office and produced from 1968, with this particular example dating from after 1976.
Constructed from cast iron, aluminium, and glass, the kiosk is painted maroon to match the station's colors and the Metropolitan Line it serves. It has a square shape and consists of six cast iron components: a floor plate, a roof dome, and four side panels. The rear panel is solid cast iron, while the two adjacent panels each feature a large pane of toughened glass set in a rectangular frame with rounded corners. The fourth panel includes an aluminium door, also glazed to match the side panels.
The roof dome is a Mk 2 design, characterized by a continuous cast lip, a flat top, and softly squared corners. Each side of the kiosk has round-cornered rectangular panes of toughened glass, with the pane above the door displaying the word ‘Telephone’.
Inside, the kiosk is equipped with a station-to-station telephone and an in-station autophone. It is located on platform 2, designated for southbound services.
