GV II

Small farmhouse with attached barn; unoccupied at time of inspection (August 1994). Probably late C17 or early C18; altered. White-washed rubble with quoins, stone slate roof. Single-depth 2-unit plan on east-west axis facing south, with barn continued at west end. EXTERIOR: 2 low storeys and 2 windows. The ground floor has a wide gabled porch with a square-headed doorway and a drip-band; a 3-light casement to the left, an altered 1-light opening in the left corner (now lacking glazing), and a narrow 4-pane fixed window to the right; the upper floor has a small square 2-light sliding sash window to the left, with glazing bars, and a 2-light casement on a slightly lower level to the right. Square chimney on ridge at junction to left, gable chimney to right. Barn to left has doorway in centre altered as window (lacking glazing), square loading window above to the right; and an altered or inserted wagon doorway in the west gable. Rear: house has through-stones, 2 very small 1-light windows, and small lean-to at west end. INTERIOR not inspected, but likely to contain features of historical interest. Forms group with Gawthrop Hall to west (qv) and with Barras House to south (qv).
