Description
A farmhouse and barn, now converted into two houses, dating probably from the mid-17th century with a barn built in the 18th century. The construction combines limestone and cobble rubble, topped with a graduated greenslate roof and stone ridge chimney stacks. “High House” is two storeys high and comprises four bays, with a single-bay extension to the left. “Barn End” has two bays, all under a shared roof, with a lower former barn adjoining to the right. The front of High House features a plank door within a chamfered stone surround. It has two-light, chamfered stone-mullioned windows, two of which have had their mullions removed. A 19th-century sash window sits above the entrance, and there is a 20th-century window to the right. The extension has a blocked doorway with a two-light opening and a 20th-century two-light window above. Barn End has a plank door within a 20th-century surround, dated and inscribed C.C. B.H. 1977. Above this door is a small, chamfered-surround window, and to the right is a two-light stone-mullioned window, accompanied by a similar window below where the mullion has been removed. The barn itself has two doorways and a plank door at one end. At the rear of High House, there's a contemporary stair projection with small chamfered openings. At the rear of Barn End are a two-light stone-mullioned window and a similar window below, the second of which has its mullion removed. The rear of the barn has slit vents.
