Description

Howbeck House is a late 18th-century farmhouse, now a private house, situated alongside a former barn. The house has roughcast walls painted with a graduated greenslate roof and stone chimney stacks. The barn is constructed of mixed limestone and split cobbles, with raised quoins and a graduated greenslate roof.

The main house is two storeys high with two bays. To the right stands a lower, three-bay former barn. A top-glazed panelled door sits within a painted architrave, topped by a console bracketed hood. Sash windows with glazing bars are set within painted stone architraves, with plain stone surrounds on the upper floor.

The barn features a large, central cart entrance with plank doors within an alternate block surround, all beneath a segmental arch. A smaller, similarly styled archway is located to the left. A 20th-century door is placed to the extreme left, and a plank door to the extreme right, both set within alternate-block surrounds. Slit vents below the eaves are distinguished by brick surrounds.

The rear of the house, facing the road, incorporates a top-glazed panelled door, sash windows, and casement windows, all within painted stone surrounds. A lower extension to the barn includes a 20th-century door and a small sash window, both set in a painted stone surround.
