Description

Hesket Bridge is a road bridge, likely built in the mid-18th century, with 19th-century widening and 20th-century rebuilt parapets. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features two segmental arches supported by a central pier, with pointed cutwaters beneath a solid parapet that has chamfered coping. The underside of the arches indicates that the bridge was originally designed for single-track width. For further reference, see E. Jervoise's "Ancient Bridges of the North of England," published in 1931, on page 117 for an illustration and page 120 for additional details.
