Description

The Market Cross in Hesket Newmarket is a Grade II listed structure, rebuilt in the early 19th century from an earlier design. It features red sandstone piers that support a hipped roof made of graduated greenslate. The cross is supported by four rusticated cylindrical piers with square capitals, which hold up a pyramidal roof topped with a cannonball finial. Inside the base, the floor is cobbled and there are two red sandstone stumps, likely used for stocks and a bull ring.
