Description
Maes-yr-Hendre Cottage is an 18th-century farmhouse, built in the first half of the 1700s as a two-storey, two-window farmhouse with an end chimney. The structure is built of rubble stone and has an old slate roof. The chimneys feature weather-coursing and simple cornicing; the right-hand chimney was formerly projecting. A near-central entrance has an old boarded and studded door, with the lower section replaced, set within a pegged wooden frame. A small nine-pane sash window is slightly recessed to the right of the entrance, and an eight-pane sash window is set in a reduced opening to the left. Upper-floor windows are nine-pane square sashes, set under the eaves and with the lower glazing bars removed. A window has been blocked up at the rear of the cottage. A single-storey, 19th-century lean-to, built of rubble stone and slate, is attached to the rear.
To the right, a barn addition was built in the early or second quarter of the 19th century; it is of rubble construction with a continuous slate roof. The barn has a segmental-arched entrance with a boarded door and pegged frame on the left side and a large, modern sliding barn door on the right. A 20th-century corrugated iron extension adjoins the rear of the barn.
The interior was not accessible for inspection during the survey in July 1996.
