Description

Monkey Puzzle is an 18th-century house with later alterations. It is constructed from coursed, squared rubble and features quoins. The main house has a graduated stone-flagged roof with corniced stone end chimneys, and there are projecting hipped wings on either side at the front. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay main front. This includes a part-glazed central door flanked by two sash windows on each floor. The west wing is connected to the main house by a single bay that has a wagon arch, which now contains a part-glazed door with a sash window above. The south wall of the west wing features a central door with a window on either side and above, all adorned with projecting keystones and imposts to semicircular heads. The east wing has a French window inserted in the west wall, and the south wall has two doors (one of which is part-blocked) with a window above.
