Description
Pendragon Castle is a fortified tower-house dating from the 12th century, with later additions and alterations. It was extensively restored in 1660 for Lady Anne Clifford and was dismantled around 1685. Some of the fallen masonry has been cleared away since its publication in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, revealing the north entrance with a spiral stair on either side of the passage, which was closed by a portcullis, with the slot still visible in the masonry. The site is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
