Description
The Former Institute in Muker, dated 1861, is built of coursed rubble with a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and features a symmetrical facade with two groups of five bays. The building has rusticated hammer-faced quoins and an end entry that includes steps leading up to a four-panel door set within a round-arched doorway, which is framed by ashlar quoining and a shallow gabled porch. On either side of the entrance, there are narrow round-arched windows with 13 panes, also in ashlar surrounds, each adorned with small keystones. The roof is hipped. On the rear elevation, there is a window consisting of three round-arched lights with keystones, set in a chamfered surround. The right side of the building features a sash window with tooled dripmoulds. This structure is included for its group value.
