Description

New House is a farmhouse dated 1771, with later alterations from the late 19th century and 20th century. It features watershot masonry with painted stone dressings and a slate roof. The building has a central staircase plan and is oriented with its rear facing the street. The garden front is two storeys high and has two bays. The central entrance has a plain surround and a five-panel door, with the upper panel featuring an eight-pane fanlight. Above the entrance is a datestone inscribed with "H R I" (for Robert and Isabel Holgate).

There are two windows on each storey, which were originally three-light windows, but the mullions are now missing and have been replaced with 20th-century casements. To the left, there is a late 19th-century one-bay addition that has a mid-20th-century single light window on the upper floor. The gable ends have kneelers and coping, with gable end ridge stacks and a ridge stack located left of centre at the former left-hand gable.

The rear of the house features a round-headed staircase window with a projecting keystone, and a 24-pane fixed light with intersecting tracery in the head. One ground floor window and two upper floor windows contain Yorkshire sliding sashes. Inside, there is a dog-leg staircase with stick balusters.
