Description

Glen Royd is a house dated 1728, with alterations from the 19th century. It is constructed of dressed stone with a slate roof. The house follows a central staircase plan and has two storeys and three bays. A stone plinth runs along the base. The central entrance is defined by a moulded surround and contains a three-panel door, the upper half of which has been fitted with etched glass in the late 19th century. There are two ground floor windows and three upper floor windows, each with 19th-century plain stone surrounds and sash windows without glazing bars. An upper floor string course is present, featuring a dated panel inscribed ‘W R M’. A projecting eaves cornice and quoins are also visible. Gable end coping and ridge stacks are present, with an additional ridge stack to the right of centre. Keyed oculi are incorporated into both gables. The interior is not accessible.
