Description

Nook and Bronte Cottages originated as a single house, dated 1707, and later divided into two cottages with alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The north-facing walls are constructed of strap-pointed rubble for Nook Cottage and slobbered rubble for Bronte Cottage, featuring stone dressings and a stone slate roof. The original design included a lobby entry plan.

The cottages are two storeys high and three bays wide. The centrally located entrance to Nook Cottage has a chamfered surround and a decorated lintel dated and inscribed "H I E c1980", with a modern door. The entrance to Bronte Cottage is simpler, with a plain surround and a door dating from around 1960. A ground floor window on the left-hand side is a 3-light double-chamfered mullioned window. The central ground floor originally served as a fire window and retains a chamfered surround; a dripmould sits above, broken over the entrance. A double-chamfered 2-light mullioned window is on the right-hand side. The upper floor has three late 19th-century windows with plain surrounds; the casements are modern, except for the upper right-hand window which retains sash windows with glazing bars. A gable chimney is located on the left-hand side, and a ridge stack sits to the right of centre.
