Description

This drinking fountain, dated 1869, is located on the west side of Main Street in Long Preston. It is made of sandstone and features a raked plinth with an animal drinking trough leading up to a square base. Four chamfered pillars support four shouldered lintels, which are adorned with paterae, and it is topped with a pyramidal roof. The fountain has a panel inscribed with the words: "PRESENTED BY THOMAS HOLGATE OF BROOKLANDS IN MEMORY OF HIS FATHER A D 1869."
