Description
Caldecott Mill is a late 19th-century drainage windpump located in Fritton and St. Olaves. It features a three-storey, tapering tower made of tarred brick, with iron bands at each floor level and a temporary aluminium cap. There are doors on the east and west sides, each set under segmental arches, with one window above each door; the window on the east side is blocked. The mill includes a curb track and rack with track and centering wheels, as well as the remains of a petticoat. Inside, there is a cast iron brakewheel, windshaft, and wallower, along with a timber upright shaft and a cast iron pitwheel. The brakewheel and pitwheel are of the clasp arm type, and the pitwheel drives a shaft that connects to an external pump located in a 20th-century timber outbuilding.
