Description
The garden walls to The Priory are located on the north side of Beccles Road in Fritton and St. Olaves. These walls are part of a complex that dates back to the early 13th century, with the main construction occurring in the 16th century. They have been significantly altered and repaired in each century since their original build. The walls are made of brick and flint, with the north range featuring occasional slit lights and lined with ashlar. The upper courses are made of early 18th-century brick. To the west of the immediate Priory complex, the wall construction becomes progressively later. The east range has origins from the 16th century but is now largely from the 18th century. The walls include stepped buttresses at intervals and set-offs leading to rounded coping stones.
