Description
The garden walls of The Old Priory, possibly dating from the 15th or early 16th century, are part of a walled garden. They are constructed from limestone rubble, with some sections coursed and featuring ashlar dressings, topped with a plain-tile coping. The walls currently stand about 2.5 metres high, though they may have originally been taller. They enclose a rectangular area measuring approximately 80 metres by 45 metres, which was once the walled garden of The Old Priory and now includes the gardens of Bassett Lodge and The Mill. The south wall has a blacked doorway, and the structure is continuous with the front wall of The Mill and the rear wall of the stables. The enclosure is completed by The Old Priory, which may have served as the hospice of Bicester Priory.
