14/12 Gates at W end of grounds of Avington House, 5 m. S of Avington Lodge

Gate piers and gates. C18 gates in C19 gate piers. Wrought iron gates hung between stuccoed brick piers. Taller central carriage gate with over-throw linking 2 open-work columns. Gates themselves have openwork over-throw. Each side lower pedestrian gates with open-work frame above, and post against pier. C19 rectangular piers with chamfered corners and rustication ball finials on coping. Outside piers C19 railings and cast iron piers similar to lanterns (qv). Gates moved here when estate broken up in 1953.
