Description
Avington Lodge is an early 19th-century lodge that has been enlarged in the 20th century. It is constructed of colourwashed rendered brick with a slate roof. The lodge is single-storied and C-shaped, with two bays oriented parallel to the road and set at a 45-degree angle, facing towards the grounds of Avington Park. There are single-bay wings flanking the central section, with an additional bay added to the roadside of the right wing and 20th-century additions to the right of this, linking it to a service building, and another to the roadside of the left wing. The central two bays have chamfered openings to a 20th-century glazed door, with single casements on either side. Cast iron guttering runs along the front. A stack is diagonally set on the ridge to the left of center. The roofs of the additions are hipped and flat. The roof of the central section sweeps down between and links to the roofs of the wings, supported by groups of cast iron columns forming a verandah, with matching guttering along the front of the columns.
