Description
Sawmill Cottage is a farmhouse that has been converted into two cottages, dating from the late 18th century. The building is constructed of brick, featuring some blue headers arranged in patterns, and has an old plain tile roof. It is positioned end-on to the road and consists of a three-bay structure, with an early 19th-century two-bay addition at the rear along the roadside, and a lean-to added to the far end, along with a shed at the front of it.
The front of the building is two storeys high and has three bays, with a central 19th-century top that is glazed and has a flat hood. To the left, there is a 19th-century two-light casement window, and to the right, a 20th-century five-light steel casement window, both set within segmental blue brick heads. Above each of the 19th-century two-light casements, there are additional casements on either side of a recessed panel made of blue headers. Each corner of the building features a clasping buttress, including the corner of the addition. The hipped roof has dentilled eaves and is topped with a large ridge stack at the center, as well as another stack on the roadside ridge at the junction between the two sections of the building. The roadside front has 20th-century steel casements fitted into the original openings.
