Description

This is a wall with an archway, built around 1880 by G. Devey, located 100 meters southwest of the Longwood Estate Office in Owslebury. The wall is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a tiled coping. It measures 60 meters long, starting at 4 meters high and ramping down to 3 meters, eventually tapering to a 1.5-meter plain wall that offers a view over the park.

Fifteen meters from the cottage, there is an archway flanked by piers with set-back buttresses made of thin bricks. Above the archway, there is a modillioned cornice that supports a row of nesting boxes with tiled roofs. Each side of the archway features a dressed stone segmental-headed opening with a Doric pillar in the center and responds on either side. Beyond these openings, there are square dressed stone openings with four-centered heads. The wall itself has a toothed cornice leading to a wide coping made of three courses of tiles topped with a ridge tile.
