Description
The Beeches is an agent's house that has been converted into a tied cottage. It was built in 1880 by G. Devey for Lord Northesk, as indicated by the inscription 'GJN 1880' on a tablet. The building features a ground floor made of flint with brick dressings, while the first floor is timber-framed with plaster infill, topped by a plain tile roof. It is a two-span structure with three bays on each side, and it stands at one and a half storeys.
The front has a central 19th-century four-panel door that is sheltered by a bracketed pent-roofed porch. On either side of the door are three-light casement windows with small top lights, set in segmental-headed openings with blue bricks forming the arches. The right bay slightly projects with a gable, which contains a two-light casement window and the tablet in the bottom left corner. Above the door, there is a narrow two-light casement window in a gabled dormer, and to the left, a two-light casement window with a head in a gabled eyebrow dormer. All gables are adorned with curling bargeboards and finials. The building also features symmetrical two-flue stacks on the gables of each span.
