Walls Around Kitchen Garden 100 Metres East Of Estate Office Longwood

The walls surrounding the kitchen garden, located 100 meters east of the Estate Office at Longwood, were built around 1880, likely by the architect G. Devey for Lord Northesk. Constructed from brick with a tiled coping, the walls form a rectangular enclosure measuring 150 by 100 meters. They stand 3 meters high and feature sloping buttresses every 25 meters, with diagonal buttresses at the corners leading to 4-meter high rectangular brick piers topped with a toothed cornice and stone coping.

A wide raised band runs 2.5 meters up the walls, which also have a toothed cornice and tiled coping with ridge tiles. On the side facing the estate office, there is a central archway topped by a Dutch gable above a round-headed arch with a hood, which contains wrought iron gates and a lunette. On the opposite side, a similar gable is found on a plain section of the wall, with small double doors below. Adjacent to this is a greenhouse built off the wall, featuring a hipped projecting wing at one end. Additionally, one end wall has a small archway and a much-altered cottage built on the wall outside the garden.
