Description
The walls enclosing the kitchen garden, located immediately east of the stables at Ven House, date from the 18th century. They are constructed of red brick in English Garden wall bond, with Ham stone dressings. The brick walls stand approximately 4 metres high and feature plain ashlar copings, along with brick piers topped with cornice caps and ball finials. The walls enclose a kitchen garden measuring about 70 metres by 50 metres, and also extend northwards to a nursery. There are gateways in the middle of the north and south walls of the kitchen garden, featuring good wrought iron gates with simple overthrows. The east wall is lower, around 1.5 metres, and is made of rubble stonework. In the centre of this wall, there are tall ashlar piers with cornice caps and urn finials, along with good wrought iron gates that have an elaborate overthrow. These walls are part of the setting for an important country house.
