Description
The garden terrace at Ven House, built between 1696 and 1730 by Richard Grange, is constructed from cut and squared lias stone for the base, featuring Ham ashlar openwork balustrades with piers topped by urns. The terrace consists of seven bays on each side of a central wide sweeping staircase, which has 16 treads. There is a similar untapered flight of stairs at the east end of the terrace. The terrace is paved with Keinton flagstones set diagonally. Although the terrace does not match the original elevation or plan for the south side of Ven House, it is likely the original as executed. This terrace is part of the setting for an important country house.
