Description
26, 28 and 28A High Street is a long building from the 16th century, featuring two storeys and an attic with seven windows. It has a very high pitched tiled roof with two substantial chimneys made of narrow brick, one located off-centre and the other on the left side. No 26 has one hipped, gabled dormer, while No 28 has two later flat dormers. The brick front dates from the early 18th century and includes segmental, gauged brick arches above the narrow first-floor windows. The two left first-floor windows have been replaced by a late 19th-century canted bay. On the right side of No 28, there are two original sash windows with glazing bars in near-flush box frames, while the other windows are late 19th-century recessed sashes, with those on the left of No 28 being enlarged. Sun Insurance signs are located at the centre of the first floor of each house. No 28A is a small mid-19th-century door inserted between the other two houses, although it is unclear how much frontage it has. Together, Nos 12, 16 to 28 (even), and No 28A form a group.
