Description

SK 24 60 PARISH OF WINSTER WOODHOUSE LANE 3/63 (West Side) 'The Old Bakehouse' GV II

House, formerly a bakehouse. C17 with additions and alterations in C18. Coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings, quoins, intermediate and end ridge stacks, that to the north end, brick, plain gables, Welsh slated roof. 'T' plan, with lobby entrance to east side. East elevation: Two storeys, two bays, with glazing bar casements in flush stone frames. Central C17 doorway with chamfered lintel and quoins, and dripmould above. C20 planked door. South elevation has two 2-light chamfer mullioned windows, one blocked. North elevation has three 2-light C18 mullioned windows, one to cellar with moulded bands linking heads of ground floor openings. Interior has massive stone baffle to entry and chamfered and stepped beam to hearth. The house adjoins Winster Hall, and has formerly been associated with it, as shown by surviving blocked doorway with moulded C18 surround from wall to the east of the hall forecourt into the adjoining plot.
