Description
Woodhays is a shop that was formerly a house, dating from the mid-18th century with late 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings and was originally roughcast. The building features flush quoins, coped gables, moulded kneelers, plain copings, and a Welsh slate roof, with the gable facing the street.
The east elevation has two storeys and attics, comprising five bays. It originally had 2-light flush mullioned windows, with heads and cills linked by continuous flush band courses, and 4-pane casements. Most windows are now blocked, with only four remaining glazed. There is a blocked first-floor doorway with a massive quoined surround at the south end, and a central ground-floor doorway featuring a massive lintel, quoined surround, and a plank door. The south gable was refashioned in the late 19th century and now has stacked sashes above the ground floor, which includes tall shop windows flanking the central doorway.
