Description

This former barn, located approximately 5 meters to the north-west of Roachside Farmhouse and its paved farm yard, dates from the early to mid-19th century and has undergone some 20th-century alterations. The structure is built from coursed and dressed stone and features a tile roof with verge parapets. It has an 'L'-shaped plan with two levels, including hay lofts above the byre, stables, and coach house.

The south-west front displays a blind, projecting gable on the left and a set-back range on the right. The hay loft is illuminated by a pitching eye to the left of center, with a window on the extreme right and a three-light window positioned directly above the center of a segmental coach entry arch. To the left, there is a grouped stable door and window, along with stone steps leading to the hay loft door, which is set against the return angle on the left. The left return features two pitching eyes above 20th-century top-hung casements and a door leading to the byre.

The farmyard is laid with massive, roughly-squared sandstone flags that are contemporary with both the farmhouse and the barn.
