Description
Rockhall Cottage is a cottage orné, possibly used as a shooting box, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of rough-faced, coursed stone with a low-pitched tiled roof behind a crenellated parapet. The building features a romantic composition in a mock castle style and stands two storeys high. The front has an irregular arrangement of three windows; on the left, there are pointed arch casements set below the parapet, and a pair of pointed arch windows to the right, each with gablets above. There is also a further pointed arch window on the ground floor, positioned between the first-floor windows. To the left of centre, there is a large three-sided projecting stair turret, which has a small slit-light on each face. The entrance is located on the side. Additionally, there is a picturesque extension to the right, situated close to a large natural cave mouth. The cottage is set against the dramatic backdrop of the broken rock face of the Roaches.
