Description
The Rock Inn is a house that has been converted into an inn, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a stone slate roof with verge parapets supported by shaped kneelers, as well as stone end stacks that have moulded cappings. The building is two stories high with a gable-lit attic. It has raised chamfered quoins and string courses at the ground and first floor window sill levels, along with a moulded eaves band. The front has three windows, which are fitted with C20 small-paned top-hung casement windows that have non-fitting shutters and are adorned with shaped chamfered voussoirs and an enlarged keystone. The central entrance features a moulded door surround, paterae, and a fluted frieze to the cornice, leading to a boarded door. Above the door, there are elaborate scrolled wrought iron projecting brackets supporting a door-overlight. To the left, there is a single-bay addition in a similar style, while a lower C20 extension is located to the right, along with additional structures at the rear. The building may have originally been constructed as the Mill Manager's House for nearby works, although those works are not included in this listing.
