Description

Windygates Hall is a farmhouse dated 1634, with some minor later additions. It is constructed of ashlar with stone slate roofs, featuring verge parapets and shaped finials. The building has stone side stacks that are battered at the eaves and gabletted at the ridge. The layout is a flat 'H'-plan, consisting of two storeys on a plinth, with an attic.

The front of the hall has two projecting gables flanking a central recess, and there are three ranges of five-light ovolo mullion and transom windows. The gabled attic windows are arranged in reduced tiers of 1:3:5 lights, with two transoms and stepped labels. The original lattice casements are present on the first floor. The central range is offset to the left on the ground floor to accommodate a flat-roofed, single-storey porch that is attached flush to the right gable. This porch features pilasters with moulded capitals supporting a frieze that steps up to the centre, with a label over an inset plaque inscribed "TH". There is projecting coping with a finial against the right side wall, which is dated 1634. The front door is an early 19th-century six-panel design.

Inside, the hall has an ovolo ceiling spine beam and dais end panelling fixed at the north end, which was formerly accompanied by a bench below. There is a door leading to 20th-century stairs on the right.
