Description

This building, known as Nos. 1 and 2 The Square, is a pair of houses that have been combined into one unit. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of ashlar stone with a blue machine tile roof. Each original unit has a brick end stack on the left side. The building is three stories high and features a two-window front that is widely spaced, with casement windows. The ground floor has 20th-century shop windows set in earlier openings. There are two central entrances: the left entrance has a moulded surround, a pulvinated frieze, and a cornice above a boarded door, while the right entrance has a 20th-century glazed door with a plain surround and cornice.
