Description
22 and 23 The Square are two houses in a row, built in the early to mid-19th century. They are constructed of coursed rubble limestone with ashlar chimneys and have a stone slate roof. The buildings are two stories tall with an attic, and there is a single-storey section at the south end of No 22, along with a continuous rear outshut.
The front features three ground floor recessed chamfered 3-light mullioned casements, which alternate with two doorways that have flat porch hoods. No 22 has a glazed door, while No 23 has a plank door. On the upper floor, there are four 3-light casements. The single-storey part of No 22 has a 20th-century 3-light window and a doorway to the right with a 20th-century glazed door. Gable-mounted chimneys are present on both houses.
At the rear, there is a row of four hipped attic dormers and a continuous outshut with a lean-to roof. The interior has not been inspected. These houses are included for their group value.
