Description
Two houses, numbers 28 and 29, stand on the south side of The Square in Bibury. Number 28 was likely built in the mid to late 17th century, while number 29 dates from the early 18th century. They are constructed of random and coursed rubble limestone with ashlar chimneys and stone slate roofs. Both houses are two storeys high with attics.
The eastern front of number 28 has two dormers positioned under the eaves, each containing a timber casement window. A doorway on the right has a timber lintel and a plank door, while the left doorway has a blocked porch addition; a timber casement window sits to the left. A single gabled attic dormer is also visible. Number 29 has a full gable with a single attic casement window; it features a two-window arrangement on the floor below, with cross windows on the upper floor. All windows are timber casements with timber lintels. The right doorway of number 29 features a plank door, a timber lintel, and a corrugated porch hood. Chimneys are located on the north and south gables of number 29. Modern casement windows are present on the rear elevation. The interiors were not inspected. Number 29 was unoccupied and derelict when surveyed in March 1986. These houses are attached to the rear of number 26, The Square.
