Description
No. 21 The Square is a house located at the end of a row in Bibury, dating from the early to mid-17th century. It is constructed from random rubble limestone with ashlar chimneys and features a stone slate roof. The building has a square plan and is two stories tall with an attic, along with single-storey rear outbuildings. Each elevation has a full gable, with the front and rear displaying single-window arrangements.
The south gable has a gable-mounted chimney with a plain cap and an off-centre doorway that contains a 20th-century door. Above the doorway is a single-light window that is recessed and has a cavetto moulding, complete with a hoodmould. The ground floor features a 2+2-light casement window at the front, which is set beneath a large relieving arch. The upper floor has a 3-light window, while the attic contains a 2-light window; all these windows are recessed with cavetto mullions and hoodmoulds. The rear gable has a square attic recess that mirrors the front's fenestration style. The interior has not been inspected. The house is attached at the north end to Nos. 17, 18, and 20.
