Description
26 The Square is a former pair of houses, now a single house, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of random rubble limestone with rubble and ashlar chimneys and features a stone slate roof. The building is two stories high and has a front with three half gables, each containing a timber casement window with a timber lintel. The ground floor has scattered casements, including one on the left that occupies the former position of a door, which is topped by a large projecting stone slate hood. To the right, there is a doorway with a 20th-century door. The building has two chimneys mounted on the ridge. On the east end, there is a blocked upper floor opening with a timber lintel, along with indications of other altered openings. The interior has not been inspected. The building is attached to No 25, as well as Nos 28 and 29 at the rear. It is illustrated in W.G. Davie and E.G. Dawber's book, Old Cottages ... in the Cotswold District, published in 1905.
