Description

No. 30 The Square is a detached house dating from the mid to late 17th century, constructed from random and coursed rubble limestone with a rubble chimney and a stone slate roof. The building is two stories high and features two rear wings.

The front of the house has three gables and a three-window arrangement, all featuring ovolo mullioned casements with hoodmoulds. The ground floor has three-light windows, while the upper floor gables have two-light windows. There is an off-center doorway with a timber lintel and a four-panel door. A single restored ridge-mounted chimney with a plain cap is present.

On the east end, there is a gable end with an upper floor iron casement and a timber lintel. A single-storey outbuilding on the west side has timber casements. The west end has a blank gable end to the main range and a blocked doorway with a timber lintel leading to the wing. The rear features mixed mullioned fenestration, including an upper floor two-light ovolo mullioned casement in a half gable. A gable-mounted restored rubble chimney is located on the west rear wing. The interior has not been inspected. The building is partially illustrated in W.G. Davie and E.G. Dawber's "Old Cottages ... in the Cotswold District," published in 1905.
