Description

The Packhorse Bridge at the foot of Jacob's Ladder is a possibly 17th-century structure made of rubble gritstone. It features a single arch constructed with stones roughly laid as voussoirs and has a projecting drip course. The parapet walls, which are 27 inches apart at their closest point, have roughly rounded coping stones. This bridge is part of a historic packhorse route that connected Hayfield to Edale, in use from medieval times into the 18th century.
